Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis or Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) is a method of assessing your “body composition”—the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. It is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment and allows the BWN Method to be completely personalized based on your OWN body.

InBody is the premier line of award-winning BIA body composition analyzers. Trusted by professionals worldwide.

Why is Body Composition Important to My Health?

Research has shown that body composition is directly related to health. A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass, known as altered body composition, can greatly increase your risks to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more. BIA fosters early detection of an improper balance in your body composition, which allows for earlier intervention and prevention. BIA provides a measurement of fluid and body mass that can be a critical assessment tool for your current state of health.

BIA also measures your progress as you improve your health. Improving your BIA measurement, or maintaining a healthy BIA measurement, can help keep your body functioning properly for healthy aging. Your BIA results can help guide us in creating a personalized dietary plan, including nutritional supplements when appropriate, and exercise to help you maintain optimal health and wellbeing for a lifetime.

How does InBody Work?

Using the method of a bioelectical impedence analysis (BIA)  is much more sophisticated than your bathroom scale, but just as simple—and almost as quick. BIA is performed in our office with the help of a sophisticated, computerized analysis.

This analyzer “calculates” and estimates your tissue and fluid compartments— using an imperceptible electrical current passed through the body simply by standing on what looks like a standard scale. In under one minute, we’ll have detailed measurements to help create an effective, personalized program for your weight and health goals.

Follow-Up Tests

We offer packages to conduct a series of follow-up InBody tests to monitor your health and measure your progress. We recommend performing another InBody after 2-4 weeks to track results.

Guidelines for the BIA TEST

For the most accurate results,
the following guidelines should be followed:

  1. Do not eat for 4 hours prior to testing.
  2. Do not exercise for 12 hours prior to testing.
  3. Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours prior to testing.
  4. Drink at least 1 quart of water one hour before your test.
  5. Do not drink caffeine the day of your test.
  6. Do not wear pantyhose.
  7. Do not put lotion on your hands and feet.

The main difference between an intolerance and an allergy is that an allergy will manifest itself almost immediately after inhalation or consumption of a particular substance. Food intolerances, on the other hand, are more deceptive. Depending on the individual, symptoms might arrive anywhere between a couple hours to a couple days.

What is Food Intolerance?

Food intolerance can occur when your body cannot properly digest and convert the foods you eat into the necessary nutrients that fuel your system. This maldigestion causes inflammation, which can lead to many negative food intolerance related symptoms including fatigue, migraine & headaches, eczema, bloating, gas, congestion, weight gain, brain fog, joint aches, acid reflux, food cravings, diarrhea, skin rash and more.

If you experience any of the symptoms above and cannot explain why, it's a possibility that you're suffering from an unidentified food intolerance. The best way to identify these food intolerances is by taking a Pinnertest—a next generation blood test that can determine a client’s individual food intolerances.

Although Pinnertest is not meant to act as a diagnostic tool, it can serve as wellness advice to alleviate negative food intolerance related symptoms.  While we do not prescribe any specific dietary plans after testing, eliminating the problem foods from your diet and replacing them with nutrient-dense alternatives is highly recommended.

Food Intolerance, Serotonin Deficiency, and Sugar Cravings

One of the more common side-effects of food intolerance is weight gain. This is mainly due to depleted levels of serotonin, the powerful chemical responsible for maintaining mood balance, social behavior, libido, memory, and digestive health. More importantly, though, serotonin acts as the natural appetite suppressant in the body, making you feel satisfied even when your stomach is not full.

When fighting a food intolerance, serotonin production (95% of which originates from the cells in our intestines) decreases dramatically, leading to intense carb and sugar cravings.

This process can send your body into a vicious cycle of mood swings, depression, and unwanted cravings, all stemming from the fight against food intolerance.

How it Works

With the little amount of blood that Pinnertest requires, our test can be administered by yourself within the comfort of your own home.

  1. Make an appointment at BWN for Pinnertest
  2. We extract a couple drops of blood using our easy-to-use finger prick tool
  3. Fill out the included consent form that allows the overseas lab to test your blood
  4. W send back your blood sample and paperwork
  5. And wait 7-10 business days for an email describing which foods you’re intolerant to.
  6. Come back to BWN to review results and create an individualized plan based on the results.
